SUCCESS STORIES
Helen Davis “I wish everybody could know about it.”
Although Helen's daughter and son-in-law were willing to help with her finances, Helen decided she would rather make it on her own. After her daughter found out about reverse mortgages, Helen decided to pursue the idea. Her reverse mortgage has allowed Helen to get caught up on her bills and enjoy an independent life.
“Relieved…I don’t have no responsibilities….and you know I can just travel now…and go to different things and don’t have to worry how it is going to be tomorrow. So I’m very happy about the reverse mortgage. I’m so pleased and I wish everybody could know about it…especially all of my friends.”
“She’s just a changed woman and we’re just real happy because we feel that at her age, she should be enjoying her children, her grandchildren, traveling, and doing things she doesn’t have to worry about so we’re real happy for her.”
Louise Hylton “It’s meant everything to me.”
Louise had lived in the same beautiful Harlem brownstone for decades, often taking in tenants to help with the cost of maintaining the house. She looked into reverse mortgages after her sister mentioned the idea. Today, Louise is secure in knowing that she can afford to stay in the home she loves.
“Because of the reverse mortgage, I have been able to stay here and it has meant everything to me. I really love New York and I really love this house and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else but here and I know I can and it means everything. I have many many great memories and I think about all the great times here and I just don’t want to ever give them up.”
Don and Joyce Kessler “We have peace of mind.”
The Kesslers have kept their finances in good shape and they love to travel. They took a reverse mortgage to tap into money that had been "sitting idle" in the form of home equity. Although they didn’t necessarily need it, the money has come in handy to pay for unexpected medical expenses and to help family members.
“I “There’s a lot to be said about piece of mind…a lot to be said for not having to think twice about purchasing something. At this point in our lives, we’ve gone through the hard times. We’ve gone through not having enough money to pay the bills or to put food on the table or to buy that extra special thing for a child. We’re beyond that and I don’t want to go through that again. As a senior…I definitely don’t want to go through that again.”
